Reflection
NASPA National conference was my second opportunity to attend a student affairs conference. While the previous conference was set in Sacramento and required a bit of driving, this conference was in Los Angeles. I was able to attend two days and found the atmosphere to be very inclusive well organized especially given its venue (Los Angeles Convention Center). I attended multiple workshops but found the most influential to be a series on interventions for students who had fallen into academic probation. I found the programs director to be passionate and creative in how they addressed the challenges of engaging these students. I also found an interesting part of the workshop was issues concerning FERPA.
I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the conference. NASPA Purple lanyards saturated the area and flowed onto the streets. I also enjoyed how the conference expanded into the neighboring hotels. I was lucky enough to participate in a lecture on food insecurity and food pantries at the Marriott location. It was great to see the difference and similarities of the regional and national conference. Obviously the biggest difference was the scale. I would like to participate in an ACPA conference moving forward. From what I have gathered ACPA has a different conference that really shines more progressive areas.
