Reflection

The experience I had at CSULB cemented my dedication to the field of student affairs. I was lucky enough to work with multiple facets of the USU and was given a level autonomy that allowed me to fully invest in the pantry. Connecting all of the resources I had available; everyone student, faculty or staff I worked with was fully engaged and taught me a tremendous amount about public four year universities. They welcomed me and trusted me with the development of the pantry. They also included me meetings, off campus events and more.

The pantry itself motivated me because of my own history with homelessness and food insecurity. I was homeless for a significant period during my teenage years and ultimately spent 20 months in a long term homeless shelter. The passion I had for the project drove what I considered creative and outside of the box methods. Going forward I would love to work with more food pantries, whether directly or in an advisory role.
